Pune on Monday reported one new suspected case of Guillain Barre Syndrome and four others from previous days, bringing the case count to 163.
Of them, 47 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals. Another 47 are in the intensive care unit while 21 are on ventilator support.
So far, five suspected deaths of GBS have been reported while of the 163 suspected patients, authorities have diagnosed 127 as confirmed GBS cases.
According to the latest update from the state health department, a total of 32 patients are from Pune Municipal Corporation, 86 from newly added villages in PMC area, 18 from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 19 from Pune rural and eight are from other districts.
Health officials said a total of 168 water samples from different parts of the city was sent for chemical and biological analysis to the public health laboratory and samples from eight water sources were found to be contaminated.
Meanwhile, according to an age wise analysis of the 163 patients, a total of 24 are in the 0-9 age group, 22 in the 10-19 age group, 35 in the 20-29 age group, 20 in the 30-39 age group, 18 in the 40-49 age group, 25 in the 50-59 age group, 14 in the 60-69 age group, two in the 70-79 age group and three in the 80-89 age group,
