The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) will take a final call on a state-wide protest against the non-disbursement of minority scholarship on Wednesday.
The outcome of the meeting between Sharique Ansar, national secretary,SIO,and Lucas Kamsuan,director,Pre-matric and Post-matric scholarship,Delhi, will decide the fate of agitation scheduled to begin on November 1.
Minority scholarship was launched for students belonging to minority communities under the 15-point programme by the Prime Minister. The Directorate of Higher Education, the coordinating body for minority scholarship, had received around Rs 31 crore that was supposed to be disbursed among 48,500 students in the state. However, the students are yet to receive the scholarships.
SIO delegates had earlier declared that if the government is unable to disburse the amount before October 31,SIO will launch a state-wide agitation and also approach court if required. Sharique Ansar will meet Lucas Kamsuan and apprise him of the non-disbursement of scholarships in the state. If Lucas promises to take concrete steps,we will temporarily put off our agitation or else carry on as planned. said Nadeem Shaikh, coordinator, scholarship cell,SIO Maharashtra south.
States like Andhra Pradesh have already given away scholarships. Every time we approach the scholarship cell in Maharashtra, they promise to disburse the amount within a week but to no avail, he added.
