State BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday said the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar has realised that it is facing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and is likely to merge with the Congress.

“What alternative does the NCP (SP) has now? It is losing all seats in the Lok Sabha elections,” said Bawankule when asked about Pawar’s statement that small political parties would merge with the Congress and that ideologically there was no difference between the Congress and NCP.

The Mahayuti will win over 42 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state, he claimed. Alliance partners of the Mahayuti are working in coordination across the state, he said, adding it was visible in the election campaign.

The state BJP chief released a city manifesto prepared by party candidate Murlidhar Mohol. “The BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled all the assurances given in 2014 and 2019. The manifesto for 2024 will also be implemented in the next term,” he said.

The BJP candidate for Pune is aware of all the issues of the city as he has been mayor in the recent past, Bawankule said, adding that a lot of development work by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was carried out under his leadership.
