The ruling Nationalist Congress Party in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) received a setback vis-a-vis its functioning as the city unit of the party on Tuesday filed suggestions and objections on the draft development plan (DP) of the city. The suggestions and objections with signatures of 14,000 citizens pointed out irregularities in the provision of additional FSI along Metro corridor and Dhanori lake.
There are too many objectionable things in the draft DP. The city NCP studied the draft DP in detail for last eight days and has come up with suggestions. A committee was appointed for the purpose, which also recommended the same changes. We have submitted the suggestions and objections with 14,000 signatures, said city NCP chief Vandana Chavan.
She said the party corporators, too, had been asked to file suggestions and objections on the draft DP,which were to be finalised in the corporators meeting convened late on Tuesday evening.
Pointing out the objections in the draft DP,the city NCP chief said proposing FSI to land owners around Dhanori lake was not a mistake but was being done deliberately. It raises doubt over such a provision in the draft DP where FSI is being made possible for land under Dhanori lake. Similarly, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had proposed additional FSI at select places on the Metro corridor, but it is being wrongly interpreted and is proposed for the entire corridor. This will put additional burden on civic facilities, Chavan said.
She demanded geothermal mapping of the city so as to ensure that no underground stream was damaged while allowing construction of underground parking.
Chavan said the review of cluster development was also necessary, adding that the character of the old city would be lost if the wadas were demolished to make way for buildings.
The Laxmi Road area has been proposed to be reserved entirely for commercial use while it should be mixed with residential purpose, she said, adding that the status of hilltops and hill slopes should be as that in the 23 villages considering the effect of damage to the nature if infrastructure development is allowed. The shrinking of water bodies is also very serious and it should be stopped.
The city NCP chief clarified that the partys executive committee had taken its decision on draft DP and the corporators had to follow it.
