Atul Ganpat Anap (30) became the 13th victim of the German Bakery blast on Saturday. His wife Rita, also injured in the blast, had not yet been told that her husband was no more.

Atul,an employee of Reliance Communications, was shifted to KEM Hospital from Jehangir Hospital four days ago and was on ventilator when he died. Rita is still in ICU but she was taken off the ventilator on Saturday. Atul’s mother and his sister, who were at the hospital, had to be sedated as they were unable to bear the trauma. His father Ganpat is also in shock.

Atul and Rita were shifted to KEM on relatives’ demand. A doctor and relative said,“When they had come from Jehangir, they were very serious and had multiple injuries. Metals and other foreign objects were found in the body. The infection had spread,it was getting difficult to curtail it.”

Atul and Rita had come to Pune from Nerul in Navi Mumbai, where they lived, for Rita’s job interview with a leading IT company last Saturday. “They were to return the same day. They must have stopped at the bakery for a meal,” said a relative.
