Yerwada Central Prison (File Photo)A convict in a murder case has escaped from the Yerwada Central Prison. Police have identified the convict as Raju Pandharinath Dusane (43). Jail constable Avinash Pawar lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Yerwada police station on Monday.
Police said Dusane is a native of Vaijapur in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. He was arrested in a murder case of 2015 in the jurisdiction of Warje Malwadi police station in Pune city.
A court held him guilty in 2021 and awarded him imprisonment for life. Accordingly, he was serving his punishment in the Yerwada Central Prison. But he was found absent during the daily counting of inmates on Monday evening.
Police suspect he fled from the open jail of the prison. Police have booked him under Section 262 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a search for him.
