In the wake of the State Legislative Assembly elections, the Maharashtra State Excise Department’s Pune Division has registered 1,267 crimes and arrested 1,179 people since October 1, 2024. In addition to this, 982 vehicles and cash amounting to Rs 5.55 crore have been seized, said Charan Singh Rajput, State Excise Superintendent.
59 proposals under Section 93 of The Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949 have been filed with the concerned magistrate against repeated offenders in the district.
Peaceful behaviour bonds are being taken from the said offenders. And so far bonds worth Rs 11.08 crore have been received in 12 cases. Meanwhile, three cases of Goa state manufactured liquor have been filed and goods worth Rs 41.7 lakh have been seized along with 2 vehicles.
Citing the Assembly elections various teams have been formed as per Dr Vijay Suryavanshi – State Excise Commissioner, Dr Suhas Diwas – Pune District Collector and District Election Officer; Prasad Surve – State Excise Enforcement and Vigilance Commissioner and Sagar Dhomkar – Divisional Deputy Commissioner, State Excise Pune Division, from 1st October 2024. These teams are taking strict action against illegal liquor production, transportation, distribution and sale in the district.
A special inspection campaign is being implemented to take strict action against offenders as per provisions of the rules. 24×7 patrolling will ensure the said rules are strictly followed. Also, a total of 109 violators of the Election Commission of India model code have been booked against departmental discrepancies and strict action is being taken as per the Collector’s orders.

Vigilance is being taken to ensure that illegal liquor will not be transported to entice voters, liquor sales will remain open within prescribed time. Liquor sale licence will be monitored regularly.
Diwase has directed officials to take strict actions against transport illegal liquor and who sale beyond allowed timings on the lines of state assembly elections.
A Dry Day has been mandated starting from 6 pm on November 18, 2024, till the completion of the polling process on November 20 and again on November 23, the day of counting votes. Liquor sale in the district will remain closed during this period.
