Relative of corporator among two arrested.

The state excise department on Wednesday raided a grocery shop at Mhaskewadi on Alandi Road and seized a large stock of imported liquor meant for sale at Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of Army. Two persons,including a relative of a local corporator,have been arrested.

Acting on a tip-off,the excise officials raided the shop and recovered imported liquor bottles bearing stamps of CSD. The arrested have been identified as Vijay Tukaram Mhaske,relative of a local corporator,and one Mhaske,whose first name could not be ascertained.

A senior officer said the total value of the seized liquor could not be ascertained as the teams were busy carrying out raids at some other places. He,however,said the stock could be valued at few lakhs.

The raid,under the guidance of deputy commissioner Sunil Chavan and superintendent Anil Chaskar,was conducted by probationary superintendent Ganesh Patil,deputy superintendents V M Lingare and C P Shitole,inspectors S B Patil and Hande.
