A discussion on the Indian gaming industry,GameStorm 2010, has been organised by the Mahratta Chamber of Industry and Agriculture (MCCIA) at the MCCIA Trade Tower to generate awareness on the subject and discuss its opportunities and weaknesses. Gaming industry is huge around the globe,and is growing by leaps and bounds. So it is but natural that India should stake a claim for a bigger slice of the pie. But many challenges still ail the Indian gaming scene and these basic flaws need to be corrected.,stated an MCCIA release. In his opening message Anant Sardeshmukh,the Director General,MCCIA,will touch upon some numbers relating to the Indian gaming industry and the roadblocks it faces. The global gaming industry was valued at USD 36 billion in 2008. India's market has proven to be resilient even in the face of the 2008 economic downturn,and now is being looked upon as the next big destination for high-end,skill-based activities. But,the stage is still in its infancy and needs dexterous strategies to be built up to its potential,said Deshmukh. Some major problems are the high infrastructural costs,non-availability of adequate bandwidth,piracy and lack of original IP. As gaming is a relatively new form of entertainment,the Indian populace needs to be attracted into it with more local themes. The event will provide a chance of market interaction for those in the industry. On the cards is also an outline of the various career options that can be explored within the industry. Different segments will deal with more clarity on the roles of production management,artists,game designers,programmers,hardware and testers.
