Stating that the terror threat on the Chabad House and some places in Koregaon Park and Camp areas persists,Pune Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh on Saturday warned that action will be taken against those found covering their faces while driving in these areas. However, helmets are not banned.

On Friday,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil issued a notice saying men, while driving, should not cover their faces with scarves or masks. The appeal further stated that even women should not cover their face while driving through Koregaon Park and Camp region.

Singh said there is a possibility of terror suspects getting away by wearing scarves and masks. “As a preventive measure,we have appealed to people to avoid covering their face while driving. We would continue to appeal for three days. After that,we will take action against offenders,” he said, but did not disclose the nature of action.

Singh said security has been increased in Koregaon Park and Camp areas. “There are no fresh alerts but the terror targets are located in Koregaon Park and Camp,” he said.

Singh said that investigations are in the right direction. “We have necessary evidence from the blast scene. No evidence was washed away, thanks to the fire brigade. We are yet to receive the forensic report from the NSG,” he said.

Hoax calls

Singh said police have received 23 bomb hoax calls since February 13. “There were 34 hoax calls in 2009 and only five between January 1 and February 12. But after the February 13 blast, the number has gone up,” he said. “People should inform police about any suspicious objects. But some are playing mischief by passing on false information, which puts taxes the bomb disposal and detection squad.”
