Bank staffer dies after tree branch falls on him near Pune’s Omkareshwar temple

A case of accidental death has been registered at the Vishrambag police station and further inquiry has been initiated.

The police have identified the deceased as Abhijit Gund, 32, a resident of Kasba Peth.

A man working with a private bank as a cashier died after a branch of a tree fell on him near the Omkareshwar temple at Shaniwar Peth in Pune on Sunday evening.

The police have identified the deceased as Abhijit Gund, 32, a resident of Kasba Peth. The police said Gund’s parents had died a few years back and his brother lives in a foreign country.

Senior police inspector Ravindra Gaikwad said Gund was standing under the tree and having tea with his friends at a stall when a branch fell on him, causing his death.

Gund was rushed to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw but he was declared dead by the doctors.

The police said many devotees had come to the Omkareshwar temple on Sunday evening on the occasion of the Tripurari Purnima festival.
