The Pune District Collectorate has decided to start the Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Scheme (MEGS) in the district. The district authorities on Monday made an announcement to initiate at least two employment guarantee projects in each village.
District collector Chandrakant Dalvi said that under MEGS,1.90-lakh families in the district have been registered. These families would soon be provided with job cards. So far,the district authorities have completed the task of taking photos of the 1.30-lakh candidates, which would later be put on job cards.
He said the work of completing job cards would be completed within a month. The workers will have to open bank accounts before they start working under the scheme. Despite receiving funds under the MEGS,there are no projects that are carried out. To give an opportunity to villagers to earn money at the local level,we have decided to carry out development works under MEGS. In the first phase, works related to agriculture and roads would be taken up. The roadwork will be carried out under Zilla Parishad, Dalvi said.
