Loyola boys lift Nehru Trophy

Loyola High School edged out Vidya Bhavan by a solitary goal in the boys' final of the Under-16 Nehru Trophy football tournament at Rangehills Ground,Khadki,on Monday.

Loyola High School edged out Vidya Bhavan by a solitary goal in the boys’ final of the Under-16 Nehru Trophy football tournament at Rangehills Ground,Khadki,on Monday.

Loyola and Vidya Bhavan were on equal terms as far as ball possession in the mid-field went,with Rahul Bharti and Nishit Hegre ensuring that Vidya Bhavan’s atack did not lose its sting compared to Loyola’s efforts.

The boys from Loyola finally managed to break through the Vidya Bhavan defence,only to be denied a goal. However,they did get a free kick outside the box. Negh Sanghvi,who was instrumental in Loyola’s semifinal win on Sunday,converted. And though Vidya Bhavan tried hard,they were unable to break the deadlock.

Meanwhile,in the second semi-final of the girls’ matches held at the same venue,St Mary’s trounced SPM School 6-0. The girls from Mary’s opened the scoring as early as the second minute of the game,with Hiba Faquih finding the net. She doubled the lead in the fourth minute through another brilliantly struck volley.

Goals in the eighth,14th and the 18th minute,from Shivani Damsetti,R Alisha and Lian A respectively,sealed the game in favour of St Mary’s. Damsethi soon scored her second goal and the sixth of the match in the 23rd minute.

St. Mary’s will take on Vidya Bhavan in the final on Tuesday.
