The Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) has issued notices to 43 establishments for failing to renew the lease of their properties. The Board has asked the establishments, including Mandals and trusts,to hand over the possession of the buildings occupied by them. They not only failed to renew the lease for over two and half months but also defaulted in monthly payment of licence fee, said officials.
KCB chief revenue superintendent V R Panse said notices were issued to the establishments as the lease of the buildings from which they operate have expired. Most are mandals and trusts that run reading rooms and halls for cultural programmes. He said the property which is used for running of these establishments was raised from the funds provided by the Cantonment Board,MLAs and MPs. In case of stalls and shopping complexes we are renewing the lease from time to time. But we have issued notices to 43 establishments for not renewing the lease, said Panse.
The notices came as the five-year lease contract of the establishments expired on May 31 this year and the board found that arrears from these establishments was Rs 9.7 lakh even though the licence fee for the occupation of te cantonment buildings was as low as Re 1 per square feet.
Officials said after the matter came up for discussion in the recent board meeting,one-member committee was set up by the Board to carry out spot assessment of the properties. The committee headed by Col Sirish Singh has found that there was a wilful default in the payment of the licence fee. The commmittee was constituted on the directions of Cantonment Board president Brig Balraj Singh.
Panse said,The matter will be again put before the Board for an action over the issue. KCB member Sunil Jadhav said during the discussion, the members pressed for stern action against the defaulters. The Cantonment Board needs to evict the defaulters as it is a grave loss to the board, he said.
Panse, however, said forcible eviction has to be first approved by the Board. The Board will study the report of the one-member committee first before taking an action, he said.
