Inter-IT cricket: Tech Mahindra,IBM & Hewlett Packard secure wins

Tech Mahindra,Hewlett Packard,and IBM all notched up impressive victories at the S1 Inter-IT Cricket Championship Tournament,at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana Ground here on Sunday.

In the first match of the day,Tech Mahindra,playing against Sungard,won the toss and elected to field.

The decision paid off as they began by bowling an impeccable line to the Sungard batsmen,said a press note. For the Sungard team,Praful Pathak (38) and Pawan Anand (35) shared a defiant sixth-wicket partnership of 55 runs to ensure that their team got to a decent total. Abhijeet Kokane (24) and Aditya Kulkarni (22) contributed valuable runs to the score. At the end of their 20 overs,Sungard put up 147 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

In reply,Tech Mahindra opened their account at a blistering pace and through the fiery batting of Vinit Pathak (44),Ritesh Joshi (30 not out) and Somaditya Banerjee (22),managed to unsettle the Sungard bowling and got to the target of 147 runs with an over to spare.

In the other match played at the Sinhagad College Ground between IBM and Cognizant,IBM won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that looked conducive for batting.

The decision proved a wise one as IBM,through the willows of Kiran Lagad (58),Niranjan Dravid (42) and Ajinkya Kale (31),notched up an impressive total of 162 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Cognizant began disastrously and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Though Gaurav Chattur (22),Gaurav Chutani (21) made brave contributions with the bat,they were unable to sustain the onslaught of the IBM bowlers under Deepak Sharma 3/21,Ajinkya Kale 3/28 and Shripad Joshi 2/23.

IBM won by the match by 27 runs,bundling out Cognizant for a total of 136 runs in 18 overs.
