R systems on Sunday defeated Wipro Technologies by a comfortable 6-wicket margin in the S1 Inter-IT tourney at the Sinhagad College Ground here.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first on a flat pitch,Wipro looked set to score a huge score as their openers Amit Sharma and Girish Joshi put on a first wicket partnership of 58 runs, which saw them blast the bowlers to all ends of the park. But just when they looked to be settling in,setting the tone for a huge total, disaster struck and Wipro began to lose wickets at an alarming pace.
Sharma who scored 45 runs and Joshi who faltered after scoring a well-made 29 were the only bright spots in the otherwise crumbling Wipro team batting line-up. Aniket Taware 2/22 and Raju Prajapati 2/27 were the bowlers for R systems who dented the Wipro batting line up. Wipro eventually managed to score a total of 150 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
R Systems on the other hand began on a positive note with Vinayak Behere and Aniket Taware scoring a first wicket partnership of 91 runs. Taware who eventually scored an unbeaten 83 laced his innings with a total of seven boundaries and one six. R Systems eventually managed to overhaul the total posted by Wipro in 19.4 overs sending the Wipro team crashing and the R Systems supporters into que delirium. R Systems managed to pull off a stunner of a victory by losing only 4 wickets in the process. Tawre picked up the man of the match award .
