The Indian Army on Tuesday launched a humanitarian aid and disaster relief operation in some villages of Ahilyanagar (earlier known as Ahmednagar) district where severe waterlogging and flooding was reported due to heavy rains. In the operation that was launched on Tuesday evening, close to 30 villagers moved to safety.
A press statement from Army authorities stated that following incessant heavy rains, Khadki and Walki village in Ahilyanagar district experienced severe water logging, leading to waist-deep flooding and residents being marooned. “The village, located approximately 20 km from the Army’s Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S), was facing a critical situation due to the rising water levels.
Following a request for assistance from the District Magistrate of Ahilyanagar, the Indian Army promptly mobilised one relief column from ACC&S to carry out rescue and relief operations in the affected area.” the statement read.
“The relief column reached Arangaon village at 5.35 pm on Tuesday to meet civil authorities, who then led them to the flood-hit area. The team reached the affected area at 5.50 pm and has since commenced active rescue operations to assist the stranded population. The Indian Army remains committed to extending all possible humanitarian assistance and support to fellow citizens during natural calamities and emergencies, operating in close coordination with civil administration to alleviate distress.” the release stated.
