‘Indecisive’ Cong responsible for Naxal menace: Javadekar

BJP Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said that Congress’ “ambivalent” and “indecisive stance” was aggravating the menace of Naxalism.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said that Congress’ “ambivalent” and “indecisive stance” was aggravating the menace of Naxalism.

Addressing the media in the city, Javadekar said,“Saturday’s ambush is an attack on the country and we do not wish to politicise it. This time Maoists have attacked Congress leaders but BJP too has been their target in the past. In the last five years,as many as 80 BJP workers have been killed by them in Chhattisgarh. To attack elected representatives is a part of their well-planned strategy to destroy democracy.”

Javadekar stressed the need to wipe out Naxals and extended BJP’s support on this front.

“When P Chidambaram had proposed a stringent policy against Maoists,BJP had supported it. But,sadly,a faction of Congress was against it and hence the policy couldn’t be implemented. Congress’ ambivalent and indecisive stance on Naxalism is aggravating the problem. It’s public knowledge that Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh and Mani Shankar Aiyar sympathise with Naxals,” he said.

He said states alone could not curb Naxalism and it was high time Centre adopted a unified and coordinated anti-Naxal policy.

“Today, the country needs a unified national strategy to eliminate Naxalism. Naxals launch an attack in one state and then sneak into other states. Even after so much Maoist violence, there are many who do not understand that they are agent of destruction and not for development,” said Javadekar.
