Padmabhusan Dr Raghunath A Mashelkar, president of Indian National Science Academy (INSA),on Friday said there was a need to start incubation centres in academic institutions in the country to develop new ideas for scientific research. He was speaking on Innovation – More From Less For More,as part of a lecture series at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) here.

“As many of us in the world grope in this darkness, attempting to follow the identified path to education or light,a select few decide to break away from the herd, and chart out a new path of their own. These few become the ‘leaders’ or ‘torchbearers’ and their new path is the result of innovation.”

Dr Mashelkar said innovation had become an important concept in the world now. Indovation is Indian innovations that have happened in the recent past and all these innovations are aimed at getting more features from less for more and more people, which have been labelled as an MLM concept. “This is basically innovation done by the masses for the masses, but at a very affordable price.” He termed mobile phones as an ideal example of wanting more from less.
