With the final voting turnout declared for Pune Lok Sabha seat, the Vadgaonsheri segment among the total six Assembly seats is likely to play the most crucial role in deciding the fate of the election outcome. It alone has registered an increase of 35,648 votes out of the 69,854 more votes cast in the polls compared to the 2019 elections.
The polling for Pune Lok Sabhaseat was held on Monday and it registered a voter turnout of 53.54 per cent as against 49.87 per cent in 2019. The total number of votes cast in this election is 11,03,678 which is 69,854 votes more than the 10,33,824 votes polled in 2019. The BJP had defeated the Congress in the previous election and this year also the constituency witnessed a straight fight between Murlidhar Mohol of BJP and Ravindra Dhangekar of Congress.
Of the 69,854 more votes cast this election, the maximum are from Vadgaonsheri Assembly segment with an increase of 35,648 among its total count of 2,41,817 votes cast this time. Incidentally, the BJP had lost the Assembly seat in 2019 to NCP, which is now its alliance partner in Mahayuti.
The Kothrud Assembly segment registered an increase of 16,929 votes more than it polled in 2019. The BJP candidate is a resident of the same area and also many senior BJP leaders including state minister Chandrakant Patil, Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni and former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar are voters in the Assembly segment.
The increase in votes by 9,620 in Pune Cantonment is also going to be crucial considering the large population of minority voters in the Assembly segment.
The Parvati Assembly segment registered an increase of 5,874 votes which is less considering that the BJP has dominance over the area in the last few elections.
The voters of Kasba Assembly segment last year had given a jolt to the BJP in the bypolls by electing Congress leader Ravindra Dhangekar from the saffron bastion. It has shown an increase of 2,949 votes in this Lok Sabha election and Dhangekar himself is a candidate for the parliamentary election.
However, the decrease in voting in Shivajinagar Assembly segment by 1,166 than five years ago is going to bother the BJP as well as Congress. The Assembly seat is represented by a BJP leader while the Congress also has a good presence in the area.
BJP leader Sandeep Khardekar said the BJP will retain the Pune Lok Sabha seat as the increased vote across the city will be in the favour of the party.
Congress leader Ramesh Iyer said the party is confident of winning the seat this time going by the voting trend across the city. “The Congress workers have worked hard to regain its lost bastion of Pune Lok Sabha seat,” he said.
