As the New Year approaches, people are busy reflecting on their goals and making new resolutions. Whether it is fitness aspirations, career milestones, or learning new skills, resolutions embody hope and the desire for self-improvement. The Indian Express asked a diverse group of Pune residents from various backgrounds and age groups about what they hope to achieve for themselves in 2025.

Tejaswini Yadav, 23, astrength and conditioning coach Tejaswini Yadav wants to build a consistent routine to achieve results for a healthy lifestyle. 

“I want to build a consistent routine to achieve results for a healthy lifestyle while balancing personal and professional growth. I aim to change the concept of ‘dieting,’ as eating real, healthy food is often misunderstood as being overly ‘strict’ and hard to follow. Additionally, I want to cultivate the habit of enjoying every little thing I do, whether it’s in my professional or personal life.”

Prerana Deshmukh, 29, theatre artist

Prerana Deshmukh Prerana Deshmukh hopes to take life less seriously this year.

“I will be turning 30 this year and have decided to take life less seriously. I want to own a house, set up a studio, and start a podcast focused on women. I would also like to learn a foreign language and complete my master’s degree. I want to break my habit of skipping meals and opt for more home-cooked food.”

“This year, I plan to overhaul my daily routine by dedicating time to regular workouts, maintaining a nutritious diet, and incorporating habits such as yoga and meditation. It is not just about looking good but feeling mentally and physically strong.”

“This year, I want to share stories that inspire my followers and look beyond the usual tourist spots. I have also decided to take a break from social media once a month for a weekend and completely immerse myself in the moment. No posts, no stories—just pure travel and connection with my surroundings. Plus, I want to practice gratitude.”

Suyog Deshpande, 40, director, Grey Shade Films

Suyog Deshpande Suyog Deshpande wants to go global and secure international projects. 

“On the professional front, I’ve already expanded my work across India, and this year, my goal is to go global and secure international projects. Personally, I want my family to thrive doing what they love, ensuring we grow together. I plan to cut down on screen time and reduce my dependency on tea, which has become a coping mechanism for work stress.”

 “No resolutions for me this year, as they usually last only a week and eventually break. However, if I were to consider resolutions, I would focus on continuing good habits, maintaining good health for my family, my patients, and myself, and staying genuine and truthful to myself.”

Trupti Lulla, 52, teacher

“My New Year’s resolution is to stay hale and hearty, happy and content. I aspire to achieve new heights in my profession while being more present personally. This year, I aim to reduce my busy routine and spend more time with my family, following it sincerely. I believe in the power of consistency—there are days I don’t feel like getting out of bed, but I push myself because sometimes, that’s the only motivation you need.”

“This year, I want to live for myself and prioritise my happiness. I would also like to spend time with my friends and invest in self-growth. I always had a passion for learning harmonium, and I will nurture that as well.”

Hemant Nagpurkar, 60, banker

“I have decided to learn Tabla and enrolled for the class. I will also try to learn Yoga. At this age, there is a need to make resolutions, but the only thing is to live life happily and be healthy.”

Sudhir Kundarap, 71, retired senior bank manager

“Every new day and each New Year is an invitation to live life truly. As always, I resolve to live my own life—fit and fine—while continuing to pursue my musical hobbies to stay healthy. At this age, I focus on maintaining my current level in every aspect of personal and professional life, hoping that growth will naturally follow.”
