Health card for patients in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Soon, you will not have to carry your medical reports and case papers next time you visit a PCMC hospital.

Soon, you will not have to carry your medical reports and case papers next time you visit a PCMC hospital. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be introducing a health card system in May for all the patients who visit the various hospitals of the civic body. The health card proposal has already received a nod from the PCMC’s standing committee.

The budgetary provision finalised for this project is Rs 4.75 crore. The major advantage of this new system is that its cost-effective. With this system, the PCMC can save up to Rs 3.4 to 4 lakh every year by eliminating the expenses on printing the papers.

PCMC will first introduce the new card system in Yaswantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) and subsequently in six other hospitals as well.

The best deal for patients is that they will have to pay only once for the health card. The civic body charge Rs 8 for every new case paper. The health card will only require a photograph of the patient along with other basic information. All this information will also be fed in the computer. So when a patient visits the hospital, all the information about him will be readily available.

Nagkumar Kunchagi, medical officer of PCMC,said,“The new card system will ease out things for the patients. The moment this card system comes into play, patients need not worry about carrying their case papers with them everytime they go to a hospital. A target has been set by the civic body to start this system from May in YCMH as it is a muti-speciality hospital with a large capacity of beds and more than 1,000 patients come to this hospital on a daily basis.”

“Once the card system starts in all the seven hospitals, they will be connected to each other with the help of computers. This will help them to avail the details and information of all patients,if at all the patients go to a different hospital,” said PCMC officials.

“The card system is also suitable for patients who are illiterate. Earlier, everytime they lose their documents or reports, they had to wait in long queues to get fresh papers made. With the card system, things will be easier for them, said PCMC officials.
