Honeywell Environment and Combustion Controls (ECC) division on Thursday announced their foray into the renewable energy business by introducing the Honeywell Solar Water Heating System for both residential and commercial purposes. The pilot launch of the product was carried out by Honeywell in Pune,Bangalore and Hyderabad in April and the company has set a sales target of 10,000 units per year.
Speaking about the new product Vimal Kapur, managing director,Honeywell Automation India Ltd (HAIL),said that not many branded companies are into renewable energy business. The market is fragmented with more than 200 players but most of them are unorganised. Our solar heating system uses the evacuated tube type that has the technology edge over the flat type with a market presence of 65-70 per cent,”
The main players in the renewable energy business include Tata BP,Anu Solar,Bipin Solar and Racold. The ECC team hopes to tap the market potential and also see the incentives given by the government to customers to encourage the use of renewable energy as a driving force for the success of the product.
The Honeywell heating system works on the thermo siphon principle,an efficient method of water heating. This efficiency is further enhanced by using an advanced triple layer evacuated tube technology with high absorption and low emission characteristics. To ensure the water stays hot for considerable amount of time,Honeywell provides specially insulated storage tanks that are resistant to corrosion. It is available in various sizes, for varying climatic conditions and building types with a life expectation of 15 years.
Honeywell has established distribution network across India, backed by trained maintenance and after sales support team. Honeywell’s distributor in Pune,Ecosun Energy Company, has opened their first showroom for Honeywell Solar Water Heaters at Tilak Road.
“Studies show that a solar water heater system with a capacity of 100 litres per day (LPD) can save up to 250 kg coal,1,100 units of electricity, stops up to 565 kg of CO2 from being released, and save six trees from being cut down annually. Our user benefits include enhanced comfort through round-the-clock availability of hot water, reduced electricity bills along with helping buildings and homes go green. Besides, this is a strategic fit to Honeywell’s focus on energy and energy conservation-related initiatives,” he said.
The Honeywell Solar Water Heater is available in a variety of sizes, from basic 100 LPD standalone systems to large, customised systems of several LPD.
