Gold & silver shine on Dhanteras, diamonds too

The sale at the multiple Ranka Jewellers outlets across the city grew by 300 per cent on Dhanteras this year.

The sale at the multiple Ranka Jewellers outlets across the city grew by 300 per cent on Dhanteras this year. “This year,Dhanteras has been fantastic for gold and silver. Everyone, right from the business class and corporates to the salaried customers, came in to purchase silver. From five grams to five kg,they bought what they could afford,” says Vastupal Ranka, director of Ranka Jewellers.

He says customers were delighted by the ideal price of silver — Rs 53,500 a kg. “Silver is a more volatile investment as compared to gold. It appreciates faster and has more aggregate increment value.”

Many went for gold coins and rings rather than jewellery this year. With rising prices, gold is considered the smartest investment today. “We believe that rising gold prices are a result of an economic uncertainty, but the demand for gold in India will continue to recover as investors realise the benefit of gold as a means of investment,” says Ajay Mitra, managing director,India and Middle East,World Gold Council.
