Constable suspended,two cops transferred for not taking action on parents complaints An engineering student,Jyotsna Bagul,was murdered allegedly by her cousin Yogesh Bachchav in Akurdi in Pune on Friday morning for rejecting his marriage proposal. The girls parents said the attack followed threat SMSes he had been sending for a couple of months and alleged that police had not acted on their complaints. On Friday,action for negligence was swift. The head constable at Chinchwad police station was suspended and two cops were transferred. At 7.45 am on Friday,Bagul (20) and Sadhana Bodase (21),her roommate,were on their way to their mess in Valhekarwadi on a moped when Bachchav (25) arrived on a bike,stopped them and allegedly attacked them with a knife. Bagul,a third-year student of the DY Patil College of Engineering,was injured in the neck and stomach. Bodase was injured in the thigh. After attacking them,Bachchav allegedly made four deep wounds on his own body. Bagul was rushed to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital were she was declared dead. Bodase is under treatment at a private hospital and is stated to be out of danger. Bachchav was taken to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi,where his condition was stated to be critical but stable after surgery. Senior police inspector Mahesh Joshi said Bachchav had been placed under arrest. We have charged him under Section 302,307 and 309 of IPC for murder,attempt to murder and attempted suicide, he said. In his statement,Bachchav said his marriage with Jyotsna was fixed a year-and-a-half ago,but her parents and the girl herself rejected the proposal. He even said he sent an SMS to her father saying he can do anything with his daughters life, said a police officer. Bachchav stays in Talegaon and is employed with a private company in Pimpri. Police have recorded Bodases statement,too. Dnyaneshwar Chavan,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Zone III said head constable Sanjay Sarkale has been suspended. A departmental inquiry for negligence is on. We have transferred PI Rajendra Sawant and API Vishwas Jatak to the police control room for showing insensitivity to the complaints. said Chavan.
