THE Maharashtra Congress on Thursday urged the Bombay High Court to take suo motu action against Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad and BJP MP Anil Bonde for their comments against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Condemning the statements of the two Mahayuti leaders, Congress spokesperson Gopal Tiwari said the state government has become a mere spectator even as ruling alliance leaders openly issue threats. “The statements of these leaders could disturb peace in Maharashtra. As the state government has decided to keep silent, we request the Bombay high court to take suo motu action and direct the police to arrest the two Mahayuti leaders,” Tiwari said.
Gaikwad had said that anyone who chopped off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue, following the Congress leader’s comments on reservation, will be rewarded with a Rs 11 lakh prize. Bonde had said the Leader of Opposition’s tongue should be inflicted with burns.
Tiwari said Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis had failed to ensure law and order in the state and was going all out to protect wrongdoers from the Mahayuti. “Therefore, the two pillars of democracy — Administration and Court — need to take suo motu action to keep law and order intact,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari said the Mahayuti which came to power in an unethical and unconstitutional way only with a monstrous desire to eliminate the opposition, repeatedly brought those accused of corruption into power and gave official recognition to corruption in Chhatrapati Shivaji’s Maharashtra. “The Mahayuti is a bogus coalition of those accused of corruption,” he said.
