Four teens from Chakan returning after attending a Holi celebration at Murud in Raigad district,died after their car collided with a truck near Talegaon Dabhade on Thursday. Three of them were Class XII HSC commerce students at a college in Chakan,while one had recently dropped out. One of the friends had got down minutes before the accident while another who survived the accident is said to be in a critical condition.
Talegaon police said the six from Chakan had gone to the village of one of their friends in Murud in Konkan for a Holi ceremony and were returning home. One got down at Indori at around 1.45 am. Around 15 minutes later,a truck carrying onions collided head-on with their Ford Fiesta on the Chakan-Talegaon Road.
Anil Shivaji Limbore (18) of Nanekarwadi in Chakan,who was driving,Amol Bharat Pokale (19) of Ambethan Road,Sachin Dattatray Wahile (18) and Akshay Suresh Wahile (18) died on the spot. Police said Anil,Amol and Sachin were students of Shri Shivaji Vidyalaya in Chakan and Akshay had dropped out recently. Another friend,Ganesh Satish Naikare (18),who is in the same class,is in a critical condition.
Inspector Sanjay Nikam of Talegaon Dabhade police station said,The accident took place about 20 km from Talegaon between Indori and Bhandara hill. A truck carrying about 10 tonne onions from Chakan to Vashi collided with the car. All the four died on the spot. We have arrested the truck driver. Nikam added,We suspect the truck driver lost control. More facts will come to light after interrogation of the driver. Anil,who was driving the car,had a licence.” The students had a break between their exams and had the last exam on Friday.
“We have come to know they planned the one-day tour as they has a break between two papers. They had their last paper on Friday, Nikam said.
Police said Naikare is at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri. Doctors have told us that the next 24 hours will be crucial for him, a police officer said.
