Fire in transformer unit in Pune residential society, no casualties
A fire tender from Yerwada Fire Station was deployed in response and the fire was brought under control.

A fire was reported in a power transformer unit at a residential society in the Chandan Nagar area of Pune Sunday morning. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to the information given by the Pune Fire Brigade control room, the fire was reported around 10.25 am in Chandan Nagar’s Vishal Deep Society. A fire tender from Yerwada Fire Station was deployed in response and the fire was brought under control.
A Fire Brigade officer said, “The enclosure which houses the transformer is located between two buildings of the residential society. While there were people on the premises, they were away from the enclosure. Because of the presence of oil in the transformer, very intense smoke started coming out of the unit. We brought the fire under control within 10 minutes after reaching the spot. No damage to the residential building was reported. But because of the intense heat of the fire, cracks appeared on the walls of the enclosure.”
The officer further said, “The team from the MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd) disconnected the power supply of the unit to avert any further incident. The transformer suffered heavy damage and we have been told that it would require replacement. The exact cause of the fire is being ascertained but primary observations suggest that a technical snag in the unit may have caused a short circuit resulting in the fire.”
