A bomb threat email was sent to a private airliner early on Sunday, stating that powerful explosive devices had been planted around the Pune International Airport in Lohagaon and warning of casualties if people were not evacuated. However, the message turned out to be a hoax after a search by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Vimantal Police.

According to the police, the staff of Star Air alerted the security forces at 6.45 am, as soon as they noticed the email sent at 1.25 am.

The threat email read, “Greetings, Powerful explosive devices are hidden inside backpacks placed around the Airport and Planes. You must evacuate the building urgently. You must hurry, or the people inside will die, lose their arms and legs, or even get decapitated. WE, “Roadkill” and “Kyo” are the culprits behind this terror attack. GIVE A COPY OF THIS MESSAGE TO THE NEWS OUTLETS.”

The officials conducted inspections in and around the airport and found that explosives were not planted on or around the premises. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee of the airport also convened a meeting and decided that the bomb threat was ‘non-specific’.

Sub-Inspector Manoj Barure said, “The email was fake. These are usually sent through the dark web. We are investigating the origin of the email.”

The police at Vimantal station have registered a case under sections 125 for endangering human life or personal safety, 351(4) for criminal intimidation, and 353(1)(B) for making statements conducing to public mischief of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified sender. The threat was sent from the email address kyoandroadkill@atomicmail.io.
