Three people have allegedly cheated an ex-serviceman in Pune out of Rs 27 lakh on the false assurance of securing admission for his daughter at a medical college under the NRI quota. The Warje Malwadi police booked three men—Jayesh Shinde, Pavan Suryawanshi and Rahul Tupere—under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (act done with common intention) after the former Armyman, a 59-year-old resident of Warje, lodged a complaint. Senior Police Inspector Sunil Jaitapurkar said the complainant runs a business. “No arrests have been made yet. The investigation is on,” he said. According to the police, the accused trio had taken Rs 27,26,000 from the complainant by cheque and cash since December 2022 after assuring that they would secure a medical seat for his daughter under the NRI quota. But the complainant’s daughter did not get the admission. Nor did he get his money back, the police added.
