Engineering student in Pune commits suicide, probe on

The incident came to light on Monday evening but police suspect that Chande may have committed suicide a few days earlier.

A STUDENT of the Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, located at Akrudi, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. Police have identified the deceased as Ranjit Chande (23), a native of Baramati.

The incident came to light on Monday evening but police suspect that Chande may have committed suicide a few days earlier. The Dehuroad police station is investigating the case further.

Chande’s family members have alleged that he committed suicide due to harassment caused by some college students.

However, police inspector Amarnath Waghmode of the Dehuroad police station said, “So far, we have not received any information regarding any harassment on Chande by any student from the college. We have also spoken to the college principal. But the college authorities said they have not received any complaint from Chande against any student. However, the investigation is on to look into all possibilities.”

Police said that Chande was a student of third year engineering and was currently residing in the college hostel. “There was no room mate with him when the incident took place. Also, there is no suicide note left by the deceased. So the exact cause behind suicide is not known yet,” said inspector Waghmode.
