In response to sustained heavy rainfall in the region and increased inflow into Pavana and Mulshi dams, the irrigation department has begun releasing water into the Pavana and Mula rivers.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has placed all emergency services on high alert and appealed to citizens residing near riverbanks to exercise caution.
As of Monday morning, 2,800 cusecs of water was being released from Pavana dam, while 8,200 cusecs was flowing out from Mulshi dam into the Mula river in the afternoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall in the catchment areas of the dam, which may result in further water discharge in the coming hours.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh directed all civic teams, including disaster management units and fire services, to stay prepared for any eventuality. Rescue teams equipped with essential gear are stationed across the city, and the municipal disaster control room is fully operational. Zonal-level officers have been appointed to coordinate response efforts in their respective areas.
The PCMC has also urged residents, particularly those in low-lying and river-adjacent areas, to avoid venturing close to riverbeds and to follow updates shared through official channels.
