Doctor arrested on charges of raping nurse

A 31-year-old medical practitioner from Mohannagar,Dhanakwadi,was arrested for allegedly raping a nurse on the pretext of marrying her.

A 31-year-old medical practitioner from Mohannagar,Dhanakwadi,was arrested for allegedly raping a nurse on the pretext of marrying her. The accused,Sandip Chandrakan Khutwad,was produced in the court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till Tuesday.

Police sub-inspector Tejaswini Yadav of the Sahakarnagar police station said,“Khutwad was working as a trainee doctor in a private hospital at Bibvewadi. Khutwad took the nurse to several lodges and hotels in the city between 2002 and 2007,and raped her on several occasions on the pretext of marrying her.”

When the victim spoke of marriage to Khutwad,he demanded a dowry of Rs 5 lakh and also asked for a piece of land to build his own hospital. When she expressed her inability to do so,he started avoiding her. According to the complaint,Khutwad had also abused and attacked the victim’s relatives.

Yadav said,“We arrested Khutwad on Saturday under Indian Penal Code sections 376 for rape and 420 for cheating.”
