Doctor arrested for ‘raping’ domestic help, complainant held for ‘extorting money’

Victim says accused told her he would take care of her and help her buy a house.

The Pune police have arrested a 77-year-old man for allegedly raping his 23-year-old domestic help at his residence in New Sadashiv Peth. The police have also arrested the complainant woman, who is a resident of Bopodi, for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money from the man.

The man and the domestic help lodged cross complaints against each other at the Vishrambag Police Station on Wednesday.

As per the complaint, the man allegedly lured the woman, saying he would take care of her and also help her buy a house. He then allegedly developed a physical relation with her from March 2012. The police have booked the man under several sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The man filed a cross complaint saying the domestic help and two of her aides allegedly extorted Rs 3.25 lakh from him. They allegedly blackmailed him saying that they would file a complaint against him, if he did not pay them the required money.

It was also alleged that the woman and her aides threatened to kill him on Wednesday and demanded more money. The woman has been arrested under sections 384 (punishment for extortion), 506 (2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Deepak Humbre, who is investigating the  case said, “The accused man is a doctor. He met the woman when he was admitted to a hospital, a few years back. The woman was deployed at the hospital by a nursing bureau.

Later, the woman started working as his house maid. We would conduct medical tests on the man and woman to ascertain whether the rape complaint is genuine.”
