Day after question paper blunder,MNVS activists protest,clash with varsity staff

Activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) clashed with University of Pune staff while protesting at the varsity’s examination department against various irregularities in the department,including goof-up regarding BSc second year’s Marathi question paper on Monday when the varsity forgot to print the paper based on the new syllabus.

The MNVS had sought a dialogue between the party workers and the examination officers to seek explanations regarding irregularities in the departments. “We were demanding a justification for things including yesterday’s goof-up and past irregularities in the marksheets of students of different departments,” said an MNVS activist. The activists put up posters in the examination office and put black ink on the chair of the controller of examination S M Ahire.

Ahire assured the activists that the university will look into all the irregularities without any delay. Even as the discussion was going on,security guard Navanath Patole rushed in and informed the university staff that while entering the office,MNVS activists had assaulted him. “I was standing guard at the door when almost 20 people from the MNVS rushed towards the gate and two of them assaulted me and pushed me,” he said.

However,later they were chased away by the university staff. The staff also got hold of one of the activists,beat him up and took him to the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

Police officials were called in to bring the situation under control.

Talking about the situation later and the course of action to be taken,Wasudev Gade,director of UoP’s Board of College and University Development (BCUD),said,”A complaint about the incident has been lodged by Ahire and Patole with the university’s registrar. The registrar will forward the complaint to the police.”

Meanwhile,the Chatuhshrungi police have arrested MNVS activist Nilesh Maruti Pawar (25) from Yamunanagar,Nigdi.
