SISTERS OF the two accused persons— Sharad Kalaskar and Sachin Andure— were examined by the defence lawyer Virendra Ichalkaranjikar as ‘defence witnesses’ in the Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case, before a special court in Pune on Friday.
Both women claimed before the court that their brothers, who are accused of killing Dabholkar, were present with them at home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 20 in 2013, the day Dabholkar was murdered on VR Shinde bridge in Pune.
“Dabholkar was murdered on Raksha Bandhan day. Kalaskar’s sister is married and lives in Nashik. She said she had come to her parents’ home in Aurangabad on that day and celebrated Rakhee with her brother Sharad Kalaskar,” said Ichalkarnjikar.
The lawyer said that Andure’s sister is from Akola district. “She told the court that Andure had called her a day before Raksha Bandhan saying he would come to Akola for the occasion and that he wanted to speak to her. Accordingly, he reached his sister’s house in Akola in the early hours of August 20, 2013,” the lawyer said.
“He rested a while and spoke to his sister about his relationship with a woman of another caste. He wished to marry her and asked his sister to speak to the parents. But she refused because an inter-caste marriage of another brother in the past had caused much tension in the family. After celebrating Rakhee, Andure left but was unhappy with his sister’s refusal. He married the same woman in 2015,” said Ichalkarnjikar.
