A 24-year-old woman, who is hearing and speech impaired, was allegedly sexually harassed by the supervisor of the organisation she works for over a period of eight months by sending her lewd messages and videos and making unwelcome advances.
An FIR was registered at Warje Malwadi police station in Pune late on Monday night based on the complaint filed by the woman who works for an organisation located in the jurisdiction of the police station.
According to the complaint, the supervisor sexually harassed her from January till August this year. The FIR says that the accused on multiple occasions between January 13 and August 18 sent the victim text messages and videos with obscene content, made unwelcome advances and sexually explicit overtures and inappropriately touched her.
In the third week of June, in the office of the organisation, the supervisor asked all other staffers to leave a room and inappropriately touched the victim when she was alone in the room with her.
The victim recently approached the police with the complaint after which an FIR was registered.
The police have invoked sections of IPC related to outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment by way of unwelcome physical contact and sexual advances and criminal intimidation. Police have also invoked relevant sections of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and Information Technology Act.
An inspector (crime) at the police station, where the case has been registered, said, “We have initiated a probe in the case and are on the lookout for the supervisor”
