BJP MLA Girish Bapat has demanded a CBI inquiry into the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report that was tabled on the last day of the state Assembly session in Nagpur.

Bharatiya Janta Party MLA Girish Bapat has demanded a CBI inquiry into the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report that was tabled on the last day of the state Assembly session in Nagpur.

He said that the inquiry should also be initiated against Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi who is lodged in Tihar jail.

“It’s about misappropriation of funds and the concerned people should be punished,’’he said.

He said the report clearly mentions “the cost of works for Commonwealth Youth Games increased by 85 per cent. Additional works were awarded to contractors without issuing tenders in the guise of urgency. Tax deductions were not made from the contractors’ bills and the main It’s about misappropriation of funds and the concerned people should be punished was paid fees for items not covered in the consultancy contract.’’ The CAG has stated that the rules and regulations were blatantly violated,he said.

The CAG has said on account of haphazard planning and escalation in contract costs, the amount spent for venues and equipment, city infrastructure and security aspects (Rs 1190 crore) was several times higher than the original project estimates. The report states that while nearly Rs 700 crore were spent for infrastructural facilities by the PMC and PCMC,a large number of projects could not be completed in time.

The report also raises questions over the procedures adopted for the appointment of the main contractor for the development of the venue,Bapat said.
