As the world mourns the demise of Jagjit Singh, few know about Singh’s generous nature. Prem Tiwari,a close friend of Singh, who also owned race horses along with Singh says,“He was more like a brother. I was with him till 11 pm on Sunday. He would always want to help people out. Once while he was out for a walk he met an old friend who was going through a difficult phase. He gave me money and asked me to help him out without letting him know. I must have done this for over 50 people who knew him. He would help people without them knowing about it.”

A regular at Mahalaxmi and Pune race course,Singh owned five horses. Two weeks ago,one of them had won a Grade A race. Royal Western Turf Club of India (RWITC) Chairman Vivek Jain says,”We used to meet in the mornings during a walk at the Mahalaxmi Race Course. Before his illness,we had planned a performance at the race course. Racing community would miss him.”

Magan Singh Jodha. who trained Singh’s horses and has known him for 35 years, says he was into horse racing for the last 20 years. “He owned five horses. Working with him was a pleasure. He was very well versed in bloodlines and thoroughbreds and knew his horses well.”
