Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be a compulsory subject for SSC students from 2013-14. It will carry 50 marks,40 for theory and 10 for practicals. Grades will be awarded to students.
ICT has great potential. It can enhance educational opportunities for students and also increase efficiency in general learning process. Lessons of ICT in early education will definitely give students an extra edge, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) chairman Sarjerao Jadhav told Newsline.
The ICT has already been introduced as compulsory subject for Class IX by the State board from academic year 2012-13. Jadhav said around 5,000 more schools across Maharashtra have been covered in the third-phase of the ICT scheme, which is being implemented by the Centre in partnership with states and union territories across the country.
The scheme has covered 500 schools in the first phase and 2,500 in the second phase, implemented in 2007-8 and 2011-12 respectively, he said.
The State Board has told schools that competent teachers from existing teaching staff be given the task of teaching ICT and no additional recruitment be made for the purpose.
100 in math,not 150
Mathematics (algebra and geometry) will be of 100 marks instead of 150 marks from 2013-14 reducing total to 600 from 650 in SSC. For mathematics, there were written examinations of 60 marks each for algebra and geometry, and 30 for oral test. Henceforth, theory for algebra and geometry will each carry 40 marks and 20 marks will be evaluated internally by schools,MSBSHSE chairman Sarjerao Jadhav said.
S&T pattern change
For Science and Technology students need not appear for multiple choice questions of 20 marks at the school level anymore. These 20 marks will be merged with theory examination, making overall marks 80. The remaining 20 marks will be for practicals.
