Central Railway nets Rs 150 cr revenue from sale of scraps

The Central Railway has taken the responsibility to achieve a scrap-free status across all its divisions and depots through the 'Zero Scrap' mission, while surpassing the Railway Board's target of Rs 300 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24.

The Central Railway (CR) has earned Rs 150.81 crore through scrap sales under the ‘Zero-Scrap’ mission during the current fiscal year — from April 1 to August 1 — marking a remarkable increase of 37.10 per cent, compared to the Railway Board’s pro-rata target till August. This marks the highest percentage increase over the proportionate sale target from April to August — ever attained by the Central Railway.

The remarkable amount has been reached through the sale of different scrap materials, including 6,086 metric tonnes of rails, nine locomotives, 160 coaches, and 61 wagons (including 12 km Jamner-Pachora section — a narrow gauge line in Bhusawal Division), according to Railway officials.
