Using a fake tender issued on a forged letterhead of the ‘Director of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)’, a Pune based educational services firm was cheated of Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of giving a contract of conducting training to CBSE school teachers from 12 districts of Maharashtra.
The case was registered on Saturday by a 47-year-old resident of Baner who runs an education services company in Pune. The complainant came in contact with a suspect who claimed he had direct contact with the CBSE director.
After gaining trust of the complainant by engaging with his firm in professional capacity, the suspect claimed that he could help him obtain a big contract to train CBSE school teachers in many districts of Maharashtra. He also introduced the complainant to two more persons who claimed to have access to the CBSE director. The suspects sought money from the complainant from time to time over a period of few months for awarding him the contract. The complainant ended up paying Rs 46 lakh in cash and Rs four lakh online.
Recently the suspect handed over a complainant a letter with the seal and signature of the ‘CBSE Director in charge of training’ which included a list of 12 districts of Maharashtra.
The letter said the company was awarded a contract of teachers’ training in these districts.
However, later when the complainant made inquiries with the CBSE about the contact, he came to know that no such letter had been issued. The complainant then approached the Chaturshringi police station and the FIR was registered. Assistant Inspector Rajkumar Kendre, who is probing the case, said that a search has been launched for the suspects.
