Now,all information related to the mega event Purushottam Karandak,an inter-college theatre competition, will be available on www.marathmanoranjan.com.

Now,all information related to the mega event Purushottam Karandak,an inter-college theatre competition, will be available on http://www.marathmanoranjan.com. The initiative was taken by city businessman and theatre enthusiast Vinod Satav, who believes in spreading awareness about Marathi theatre.

“During my college days at BMCC,I took part in the karandak from 1991 to 1995. I did not win any award but Purushottam Karandak has and will remain close to my heart. Hence,I decided to add the link on http://www.marathimanoranjan.com,” he says.

“Though the weblink about the college fest was added to the website last year with basic information, this year,we have done it in a big way,” says 20-year-old Tejas Satav,co-ordinator,www.marathimanoranjan.com. Starting from the names of the participating college teams, schedules of plays and photos to detailed interviews with directors, writers and the cultural head of the college, the weblink is a platform wherein Purushottam Karandak enthusiasts can find the latest developments at the click of the mouse.

Said Kaivalya Nighojkar,a student of Zeal Institute and a participant in the competition,“So far,Purushottam Karandak was popular amongst participating colleges, students and others associated with the it but now since details are online,it will have a global appeal.”

A student of Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology,Ketan Joshi feels the detailed information posted on the website about the plays helps the participants to study and analyse what others are doing and also improve themselves simultaneously.

As per the web developer,Satav, despite being a 48-year-old theatre competition,Purushottam Karandak does not get its due attention except at the time when it is held. He feels that the web promotion will add the glamour quotient to the event. Very few people know that some of the finest Marathi actors like Mrunal Kulkarni,Prasad Oak,Subodh Bhave,Kaushal Inamdar,Salil Kulkarni and many more started their acting career with Purushottam Karandak. This year, the ongoing event began on August 16 with finals due on September 3 and 4.

Titled Purushottam Karandak Special, the weblink also offers reviews about the plays that are already performed. “Once the final nine colleges are announced,we are planning to introduce a link called Supporters Group wherein students supporting their college can post their comments about what they like about the play and why they think it should win the competition,” said Tejas.
