Apart from cutting a 83-kg cake,like every year,devoted commuters have elaborate plans to celebrate the day.
Harsha Shah,president,Railway Pravasi Group,said,As many as 3,000 commuters will be able to send birthday greetings to their beloved train. We will perform pooja of the engine at 6.35 am and cut the cake at 7 am.
Shah said Deccan Queen made place in the hearts of Puneites as it was the first inter-city train to operate between Pune and Mumbai. Livelihood of many people depends on the train as officegoers from Pune use it to reach their offices in Mumbai, she said.
Started on June 1,1930,during the British rule,the train has since become a lifeline for hundreds of commuters who shuttle between two satellite cities for work.
The train leaves Pune at 7.15 am and reaches Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 10.30 am carrying hundreds of commuters who report to work in the metropolis banking on the punctuality of the blue painted wonder that takes them through the ghats as it passes through the panoramic Lonavla and Khandala section. The return journey starts at 5.10 pm. The British had named the train Blue Bird Baby at the time of its launch.
