Bravery award for saving lives in boat mishap

This year’s Abhijitdada Kadam Manavata Award will be conferred on social activists Prakash and Mandakini Amte of Lokbiradari project and Pramod Meshram who saved several lives when a boat capsized in Vainganga last year.

This is the sixth year of the awards constituted by Abhijit Kadam Memorial Foundation. Each year,the award is conferred on people who save lives in accidents or any other mishaps.

The foundation has decided to give the award to an institution this year onwards. “We have decided to give the award also to those who help uplift others’ lives. In the first year,we chose Prakash and Mandakini Amte of Lokbiradari Project,instrumental in uplifting the lives of tribal people in Gadchiroli district,” said Vishwajeet Kadam,executive trustee of the foundation.

The award for Lokbiradari Project consists of Rs 1 lakh,a citation and a shawl. While state Home Minister R R Patil will confer the award,actor Vikram Gokhale will be chief guest.

Pramod Meshram will also receive Rs 25,000,a citation and a shawl at the same function.

Meshram had saved several lives when a boat carrying 31 women capsized in Vainganga river last year. He also helped fish out bodies of drowned women.
