The crime branch unit of the Pimpri Chinchwad police Saturday arrested a bookie for allegedly betting on the World Cup cricket match between England and South Africa using an online application.
Police have identified the accused as Dinesh Harish Sharma. A police team led by Assistant Police Inspector H V Mane raided an apartment in the Adi Amma Bliss society in Kalewadi.
Police nabbed Sharma while allegedly taking bets on the One -Day International cricket match. Police also seized cash of Rs 40 lakh along with two cell phones during the action.
An offence was lodged at the Wakad police station in this case against Sharma and his two aides identified as Dhanu and Shivan.
A press release issued on Sunday by the police stated that Sharma was allegedly doing cricket betting named as “Khai Lagai” through a social media application “Cricket Live Line Guru” with his two aides.
