DEALING A blow to BJP, Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil, who quit the party two days back, finally joined the NCP(SP). The NCP wasted no time in announcing that Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil will be fielded from Madha Lok Sabha constituency of Solapur.
”Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil today joined our party. He will file his nomination form on April 16,” state NCP (SP) chief Jayant Patil said in Akluj on Sunday. Dhairyasheel will take on Ranjeetsinh Nimbalkar, the sitting MP from BJP. Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil is a former Solapur zilla parishad member. He has never contested either an assembly or parliamentary election.
Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil is the nephew of former MP Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil who held a meeting with NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde. The meeting lasted two hours. The Mohite-Patil camp has been trying to get a BJP nomination, but the party has stood by sitting MP Ranjeetsinh Nimbalkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil said, “I have been working relentlessly in the Madha constituency. However, BJP gave a ticket to someone else.
Party workers wanted me to contest the election. At one village, I was told that if I don’t contest, I should not visit the village. The picture is similar everywhere. People narrated their ordeal to me and that’s why I have decided to contest the election.”
Speaking to reporters on Sunday morning in Akluj, Sharad Pawar criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged attempt to destroy democracy. “There was no difference between PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin… Modi doesn’t want anyone from the opposition parties to get elected. It shows there is no difference between him and the Russian President,” Pawar said. “The arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is another example which shows Modi is slowly trying to destroy our democracy. In democracy, the opposition is important but Modi doesn’t think so,” he said.
