For the last 10 years, Pune residents have elected BJP candidates as MPs but they never took any concrete steps for development, Former Congress MLC Mohan Joshi alleged.

Former Congress MLC Mohan Joshi has blamed BJP for the mess in which Pune city found itself after heavy rain earlier this week. “Pune residents have suffered due to the corrupt and improper governance of the BJP government,” he said.

The recent rains in Pune led to water logging at several places. In many housing societies on Sinhagad Road, water entered the ground floors of houses, damaging properties. In low lying areas, water entered several houses,” former MLC Mohan Joshi stated in a press release.

For the last 10 years, Pune residents have elected BJP candidates as MPs but they never took any concrete steps for development, Joshi alleged. “In 2017, 100 corporators of BJP were elected but they were more engrossed in tender processes and in filling their coffers. Their Smart City project is only on paper,” Joshi said.

Instead of Pune becoming a Smart City it has become a city of improper planning. Encroachments on river beds, and lack of boundary walls near the river bed have been posing a formidable danger for people every monsoon, he said.

“Under BJP rule, corruption is the order of the day. There was no coordination between the district administration, municipal administration and irrigation department. Every year crores of rupees are spent on cleaning nallahs. Whether contractors really do their work is never checked. The result is waterlogging and flooding. BJP is responsible for the suffering people had to undergo in the last two days,” said Joshi. There was also no coordination between Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar and Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Co-operation Murlidhar Mohol, he added.
