‘Bangladeshi infiltrator’ who set up T-shirt business in Pune held
Multiple Aadhaar cards, Pan cards, Passports, foreign currency seized

Pune city police have arrested an alleged Bangladeshi national for residing in India illegally for the last 20 years.
Police have identified the accused as Ehsan Hafiz Shaikh, 34, currently residing in the city’s Maharshi Nagar area.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged against him at the Swargate police station on Thursday.
As stated in the FIR, the police have recovered seven Aadhaar cards, two voting cards, two driving licenses, seven Pan cards, four Passports, nine debit cards, nine credit cards, one “universal pass”, eight birth certificates and currency of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar, from the accused.
Police have also seized his cell phone and sim cards, documents related to his business and house rent agreement.
FIR mentions that on January 13, a group of activists from Patit Pavan Sanghatna, Krantiveer Sena and Sakal Hindu Samaj, brought the accused to the Swargate police station suspecting that he was a Bangladeshi citizen.
Police issued summons to him to remain present for investigation on January 14 and January 15.
As per the FIR, the police probe revealed that the accused is a native of Sonkanda Bazar, Phulpur in Mymensingh district of Bangladeshi. Police also found mobile numbers of his relatives in Bangladeshi in his cell phone.
As per the FIR, the accused came to India from Bangladeshi by crossing the international border in 2004 without the necessary permissions. He then allegedly obtained a fake birth certificate at Kolkata in West Bengal with the help of some agents.
Then he went to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and in 2009 he came to Pune. He resided and worked at different locations and finally settled down in Maharshi Nagar area in 2012.
Ashok Patil, Police Sub-Inspector, said the accused initially worked at a garment workshop and later set up his own business of T-shirts in Pune.
During the raid at his residence in Maharshi Nagar, police recovered multiple Aadhaar cards, Pan cards, birth certificates, passports in different names and currency of different countries along with various other documents.
The police booked the accused under sections 318, 336, 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act.
Police said a detail investigation is being carried out regarding the seized documents. Police produced the accused before a court in Pune on Friday. The court remanded the accused to police custody till January 23 for further investigation.
The police suspect that after getting a certificate of birth in India, he used it to obtain other documents including an Indian passport in his name.
Investigation is on to determine how he arrived in India and who helped him illegally procure Indian identity documents.
Investigation is being done to find out whether the accused has played a role in providing Indian documents to more Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in India.
