Himayat Mirza Baig, the prime suspect in the German Bakery blast, allegedly conducted financial transactions through another persons account in the State Bank of Hyderabad at Udgir in Latur district, according to the state Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS),which produced Baig in court on Monday.
ATS has frozen the account and is probing Baigs financial transactions, sources said, refusing to disclose the identity of the account holder. The account-holder in Udgir allowed Baig, who is allegedly LeTs main link in Maharashtra,to use it,they said.
The ATS is expecting information on the source of Baigs funds through the account details.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ATS) Vinod Satav produced Baig before the judicial magistrate,Pune,on Monday, where public prosecutor A V Ausekar sought extension of Baigs police custody for 10 days, arguing that his funding sources, financial transactions, email communication had to be probed.
Judicial magistrate (first class) Swaroop Bose extended Baigs custody to September 28.
Ausekar said the ATS has seized 10 hard discs from computers at his cyber cafe in Udgir and two more from computers at his residence. The hard discs have been sent for forensic tests. Investigation is on to know details of email communication between Baig and his aides., he said.
Some mobile phones have been seized from the accused. Call details have been sought from mobile service providers. The mobile phones used by the accused to communicate with his aides are yet to be seized, he said. The accused conducted meetings with LeT and Indian Mujahideen operatives in other countries. His custodial interrogation is required to know if he and his aides had planned attacks in other parts of the state or country. It is being probed whether any local person helped the accused in the attack, Ausekar said.
Defence Counsel A Rehman argued there was no need for further police custody as Baig had already been in ATS custody for 12 days. Rahman showed media reports about the controversy sparked after DIG (ATS) Ravindra Kadam said Baig was not in Pune on the day of the blast,February 13. Rahman said Baig was a teacher who had pursued DEd from Pune and the ATS nabbed him when he had come to the city for some educational purpose.
